Des Moines, Iowa - Day one of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Drake Stadium is in the books for Western Kentucky University.
Monteka Flowers ended her stellar WKU career with a 15th-place finish in the women's discus. On the final throw of her collegiate career in the third round of flight one, Flowers recorded a mark of 170-4. The mark was the second-best throw of her career, missing her school record from the NCAA East Preliminaries by just one inch.
In her career, Flowers was named Sun Belt Conference Most Outstanding Field Performer twice, won four individual SBC titles, earned 14 all-league honors, and has set WKU records in both the indoor and outdoor shot put, as well as the weight throw and the discus.
Also competing Wednesday, Marcus Pope finished 24th in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, clocking a time of 52.30. Pope has exhausted his outdoor eligibility at WKU, but is slated to return to the Hill in 2013 to complete his indoor track and field eligibility.
Ignacio "Nacho" Guerra will throw the javelin Thursday at 2:30pm (CT).
