BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU senior defender Ali Stahlke (Naperville, Ill.) registered a second half penalty kick as WKU tied Troy 1-1 in two overtimes on Sunday at the WKU Soccer Complex.
After senior Christen Sims (Madison, Ala.) was pushed into Troy goalkeeper Katie Comeno-Lewis in the 51st minute, Stahlke nailed the penalty kick that would provide the final result for the contest. It was the second penalty kick goal for Stahlke this season.
Freshman keeper Nikki Hall (Cincinnati, Ohio), who became the fourth goalkeeper in program history to post a 10-win season in goal for the Lady Toppers on Friday, allowed one goal after she deflected a shot by Chanel Elgin that Elgin collected and slipped past Hall. Hall has played nearly over 1300 consecutive minutes in goal for WKU. Elgin's goal came in the fifth minute of the game.
The Troy goal sequence provided the Trojans' only shot attempts of the first half. The team finished with just five in regulation, including a span of over 60 minutes without a shot. Troy (6-8-2, 1-4-1) opposed 18 WKU shots, making saves on nine.
WKU (10-4-2-, 4-1-2) has allowed multiple goals on just two occasions in the teams last 26 games played.
WKU has two games remaining in the regular season, including a Oct. 21 home game with North Texas. First touch is set for 1:00pm at the WKU Soccer Complex. Senior Day festivities will be held before the game as the contest will mark the final home game for five WKU seniors, including Amanda Buechel (Cincinnati, Ohio), Ali Stahlke (Naperville, Ill.), Courtney Rymer (Nashville, Tenn.), Christen Sims (Madison, Ala.) and Lauren Crowder (Germantown, Tenn.). Single game tickets are available through the WKU Ticket Office by calling 270-745-5222 or 1-800-5-BIG-RED. Tickets can also be ordered online at www.wkusports.com.
