BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Four Western Kentucky University women's soccer players earned All-South Region honors Thursday, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Senior forward Mallory Outerbridge was named to the First Team with fellow senior Libby Stout and junior defender Ali Stahlke on the Second Team. Sophomore midfielder Chrissy Tchoula was a Third Team selection.
Outerbirdge, who became WKU's all-time leading point-scorer and goal-scorer during the 2011 season, earned her second All-Region selection of her career. The senior forward led the Lady Toppers with 14 goals and 31 points in 2011, and was a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection. Outerbridge's 14 goals in 2011 tied the WKU single-season record for goals scored set in 2003 by Jenna Silverberg. Her total was also the 28th-most in the country. Outerbridge finished the season third in the nation in game-winning goals with eight, including her goal in WKU's 1-0 win over Middle Tennessee in the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals. In four seasons at WKU, Outerbridge tallied 39 goals and 91 points which are both program records.
Stout solidified her grasp on WKU's goalkeeping records in 2011. The senior goalkeeper became the Lady Toppers' all-time leader in wins and minutes played this season, finishing her career with a record of 45-17-11 with 39 shutouts. Her 39 clean sheets are the second-most in NCAA history. In WKU's last 10 matches of the 2011 season, Stout allowed just two goals in 961:19 of action for a 0.19 goals against average and a .953 save percentage. She also did not allow a goal in WKU's run to the Sun Belt Tournament Championship match against FIU, which went to penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie in 110 minutes. Stout's 0.65 goals against average in 2011 was 19th-best in the nation. In 76 career matches played, Stout set WKU career records for wins, shutouts, goals against average in 0.68, and save percentage at .860. This is Stout's third-career All-Region selection. Stout was a Third-Team All-South pick in 2009 and a Third-Team All-Great Lakes selection in 2008.
Tchoula and Stahlke earned their first career All-South honors. Stahlke was a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection in 2011. The leader of WKU's defense that was 22nd in the nation with a .735 goals against average, Stahlke scored the first two goals of her career this season and was also named to the All-Sun Belt Tournament Team.
