Bowling Green, Ky. - Former WKU baseball standout Matt Payton and his Gulf Coast League Phillies captured the Gulf Coast League Championship on Thursday with a 10-4 victory over the Gulf Coast League Rays in Game Three of the Gulf Coast League Championship Series.
Payton went 2-for-4 in the game with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base.
After the GCL Rays won the first game of the three game series, the GCL Phillies rallied to take Game Two, 6-3, before claiming the championship with a win Thursday.
