Matt Hightower, Sr., Cartersville, Ga.
Matt Hightower enters 2009 after an impressive year both in the field and on the mound. The Cartersville, Ga., native, recorded a .311 batting average with 70 hits and 50 RBI. The outfielder also posted seven home runs and led the Hilltoppers in stolen bases with 20. He started in the field 55 out of the 56 games that he played. On the mound, Hightower collected three wins and five losses with an ERA of 5.79. He struck out 47 opposing batters in 65.1 innings of work. The senior also threw one of only two complete games for WKU.
1. What is your favorite activity outside baseball?
When I'm not playing baseball, I really enjoy playing video games.
2. What is your favorite food?
My favorite food would be anything that's homemade.
3. What books have you read lately?
I've been reading Josh Hamilton : Beyond Belief lately.
4. What is your favorite spring break destination?
I haven't had a spring break in forever, but most likely it would be any beach.
5. What was your favorite cartoon character when you were a child? Do you have one now?
When I was a kid I loved X-Men, but now I'm a huge South Park fan.
6. What is your favorite TV show?
Sportscenter and Pardon The Interruption are my favorite shows.
7. If you could have dinner with any person in history, who would it be and why?
If I could have dinner with anyone in history it would be Micky Mantle.
8. Have you traveled anywhere outside the U.S.?
I've never been outside the states.
9. What are your plans after your playing days are over at WKU?
When I'm done at WKU, my dream is to coach college baseball.
10. What is your proudest moment in sports?
My proudest moments in sports would have to be winning the state championships 3 times in high school. Also winning the SBC championship in 2008.
11. Who is your all-time favorite sports personality?
My favorite sports personality is Bobby Cox.
12. What team do you currently root for?
My favorite team is the Atlanta Braves.
13. Who is your favorite singer or music group?
The Stone Temple Pilots are my favorite music group.
14. What is the best movie you have ever seen?
The best movie I've ever seen is The Usual Suspects.
15. Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
My brother is the most influential person in my life. To see him from where he was to where he is now is inspiring.
