Bowling Green, Ky. After a record-breaking weekend, Western Kentucky University sophomore forward Arnika Brown was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday. It was the second time this season that Brown has won the award, as she was also the season’s first recipient.
Brown helped lead the Lady Toppers to road wins over Florida International and Florida Atlantic by averaging 21 points and 19 rebounds per contest. She set a new WKU single-game record with 21 rebounds Wednesday against Florida International, while also scoring a game-high 24 points. That made her just the third Lady Topper ever to post a 20-20 double double. Brown followed up that performance by dropping in 18 points and pulling down a game-best 17 rebounds on Sunday in a two-point win at Florida Atlantic.
Of Brown’s 38 rebounds in the two games, 14 came on the offensive end of the floor. She was also productive shooting the basketball, connecting on 66.7 percent of her shot attempts.
Brown and the Lady Toppers open a three-game homestand Wednesday at 7 p.m. (CST) when they host Middle Tennessee.
