Scottsdale, Ariz. — The Western Kentucky University men’s golf team used a final round 277 to finish the Wyoming Cowboy Classic knotted with North Texas for sixth place after starting the last 18-holes tied for tenth overall. Brent Long charged into the top-five posting a final round 67 to tie with four other competitors for the fifth spot.
Long finished the tournament at five-under-par. Neil Horsley used a 69, one-under-par, in the finale to stay in the top-15 and finish tied for 12th. The freshman ended the event three-under-par. Adam McDonald also shot a one-under and finished tied for 56th. Antonio Bruna recorded a final round 72 and finished the tournament tied for 76th. Matthew Fuqua posted a 230 for the event to finish tied for 114th.
UC Davis won the classic, defeating 19 other teams, with a team score of 833, seven-under-par and a final round of 280. Troy Merritt took medalist honors at eight-under-par for the event. 120 golfers participated in the Cowboy Classic.
The Hilltoppers will play in UK Bluegrass Invitational next week before heading to Florence, Ala., to compete for the school’s second Sun Belt Conference championship.
