Nashville, Tenn. Both Western Kentucky University men’s and women’s tennis squads defeated Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon, 5-2.
The Hilltoppers improve their record to 11-4, while the Lady Toppers move to 8-7.
Andy True and Currie Martin picked up victories in both singles and doubles. A. True beat Mario Herandez in three-sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles while Martin defeated Josh Cummings in three also, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 4. The two teamed together at No. 2 doubles to take down Cummings and Andy Mizell 8-6. Thomas Krug beat Daniel Hangstefer at the top spot 6-3, 6-2. No. 2 Chad True collected a win after Jeff West retired in the first set. C. True was leading 4-0 when West could not continue.
David Bowman and Quinn Saine picked up the other doubles win for the Hilltoppers at the No. 3 spot. The duo defeated Joe McArdle and James Murrell 9-8.
Four Lady Toppers collected both singles and doubles wins Marija Djuran, Erin Fulkerson, Carrie True and Leanne Caplinger. Djuran beat Raphaela Jann 6-2, 6-3 at the top singles spot and Fulkerson took care of Kara Jackson at No. 2, 7-5, 6-3. The two teamed together to take down Olivia Ellis and Jackson at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Ca. True downed Claire Landry 6-4, 6-2 at the four spot while her teammate Caplinger collected a win over Britt Kuertz 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6. True and Caplinger defeated Jann and Marianna Rangel 8-6.
Both WKU squads will be in action again tomorrow in Nashville against Tennessee State and Cumberland. The first match is set to begin at 11 a.m. (CDT).
