Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University men’s and women’s tennis coach Jeff True announced the program’s 2008 schedules on Monday.
The Hilltoppers open the spring season with road matches at Big East Conference affiliate Louisville on Feb. 1 and Bellarmine the following day.
WKU will open its home schedule with four consecutive matches in Bowling Green beginning with Belmont on Feb. 9. Cumberland (Tenn.) travels to Bowling Green for the first of two matches with the Hilltoppers on the 10th. Austin Peay will be at Total Fitness Connection on the 16th and Lipscomb visits on the 24th.
WKU ends the month with a road trip to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a match against IUPU-Fort Wayne.
March brings six away matches and the last home match for the Hilltoppers in 2008. WKU will stay in Fort Wayne for a match against Robert Morris on the first and then head home when Tennessee State comes to Bowling Green on the second.
The Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers will travel through Alabama during the second week of March with matches against Alabama State (March 8 and 10), Alabama A&M (March 9), and North Alabama (March 11). The teams will travel to Lebanon, Tenn., for a combined match with Cumberland on March 20. The men’s squad will compete against Morehead State on March 22 and Alabama-Hunstville on the 30th.
The Hilltoppers face TSU again on April 6 in Nashville, Tenn., opening a four-match road trip to The Music City. Belmont (April 11) and Lipscomb (April 12) round out the regular season for the Hilltoppers.
The Lady Toppers begin with five consecutive home matches starting with Cumberland — on Jan. 27. Matches with UT-Chattanooga (Feb. 2), Murray State (Feb.8), Evansville (Feb. 9) and Lipscomb (Feb. 16) round out the homestand.
The Lady Toppers travel to Clarksville, Tenn., for a match with Austin Peay on the 22nd and tag along with the Hilltoppers to Fort Wayne for matches against IUPU-Fort Wayne (Feb. 29) and Robert Morris (March 1). WKU will face Cumberland for the second time in Lebanon, Tenn., on the 20th.
Middle Tennessee will host the Lady Toppers on April 4, opening a five-match trip to the Volunteer State. Competition with Tennessee State (April 6), Belmont (April 11), Lipscomb (April 12) and Cumberland for the third time (April 14) end the regular season for the Lady Toppers.
The Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers will compete at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Monroe, La., in mid-April to close out the year.
