“We are very fortunate to sign a player of Brittany’s caliber in the late period,“ said Cowles. “Her natural ability and love for the game is going to be a great asset to our program.”
Greer averaged 11 points and six rebounds during her senior season as she helped lead Conway High School to a 23-7 record and a berth in the Class AAAAA championship game. She was also named to the all-state tournament team, as she scored 14 points in the title game. A three-year starter for coach Janet Taylor, Greer earned all-state honors twice during her career, and garnered all-conference laurels three times.
She also holds the Conway High records for blocks in a game (5), season (49) and career (131), while also holding the school’s top mark for season rebounds (184) and career boards (528).
Greer becomes the first Lady Topper signee ever from the state of Arkansas. In fact, the four players signed by the Lady Toppers this year come from four different states — Arkansas, California, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
“That just shows how hard our staff is willing to work in order to go out and get the best possible players and young ladies that fit into our system and program,“ added Cowles. “It’s very satisfying to know that in our four years we have been able to go from coast to coast in order to find high quality players and people to represent Western Kentucky University and Lady Topper basketball.”
Western finished the 2004-05 season with a 20-10 record — the third straight 20-win season under Cowles — and captured its third straight Sun Belt Conference East Division championship with a 12-2 mark in the league. WKU also advanced to the postseason for the 21st time in the past 22 seasons as it qualified for the WNIT.
