Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii - Senior Jared Topmiller fired a final round 67 (five-under par) to take medalist honors at the 4th Annual Kauai Collegiate Cup golf tournament, held March 21-22 at the Princeville Resort's Makai Golf Course in Kauai, Hawaii. Topmillers' strong finish also led the way for the Hilltopper team to make a late charge and finish second overall.

Topmiller opened the event by carding a 70 and 75 to earn a share of third heading into the final round. The Central City, Ky. native's run for first began on the front nine of his final round when he fired a three-under 33. He added an exclamation point on the par 4 14th hole by chipping in for eagle, which he followed up with a birdie on the par five 18th hole after reaching the green in two. It marked the second win of his WKU career, with the first coming at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate during his sophomore year.

Western saved its best for last, firing the final day's top round, a one-over par 289, to grab second place. Marquette held off the hard-charging Hilltoppers, capturing the team title with an 878 total, five strokes better than WKU's second-place score of 883. Western's comeback left the outcome in question all the way to the final group's finish, which included Marquette's Joe Weber, who carded a 72 to give the Golden Eagles the win.

Eastern Michigan's Brad Pemberton was the only golfer to join Topmiller with a sub-par total for the event. Pemberton placed second with a score of 214 (two-under par), two strokes behind Topmiller.

WKU freshman Robby Shaw posted a 221 total to finish 10th, while seniors Adam Cox and John Mullendore both carded 226 totals to tie for 18th place.

The event was played at the Makai course's "Ocean" and "Lakes" nines, which plays to 6,886 yards. The Princeville Makai course is ranked by Golf Digest as one of "America's Top 100 Golf Courses" and one of the "World's Top 50 Resort Courses."
