Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University women's soccer team rallied late against Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday night but fell short of a victory, losing 2-1 to the visitors. The Lady Toppers sent the game into overtime when sophomore Allison Nellis (Louisville, Ky.) tallied the team's first goal in the 88th minute of play. After a scoreless first overtime, the Ragin' Cajuns spoiled homecoming night when Kristina Boldt Klausen scored the game-winning goal at the 6:41 mark of the second overtime.
The Ragin' Cajuns got on the board first, using a goal by Stacey Smith at 56:32 to take control of the game. The Lady Toppers went on the attack for the rest of the half, wracking up 14 shots on goal for the game. WKU finally got on the board when Nellis made good off an assist from sophomore Crystal Chapon (North Potomac, Md.). The Ragin' Cajuns took 16 shots on goal for the game, good enough to earn a win for goalkeeper Liza Preseault and improve the team's record to 5-7-3.
The Lady Toppers fell to 9-6 (3-3 in conference play) in the losing effort. WKU next hosts South Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. It will be the Lady Toppers final home game of the season.
