Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The Western Kentucky women's soccer team dropped its second game in row Friday night, losing 2-0 at Middle Tennessee St. in Murfressboro, Tenn. The Blue Raiders were led by forward Laura Miguez who scored the game's only two goals. The Hilltoppers (8-5-0, 3-2-0), who had won their first three conference games of the season, have now lost two conference matches in a row.
The Blue Raiders (7-8-1, 3-3) jumped on top in the 20th minute of regulation when Miguez took a long pass from Sarah Schultz and chipped a shot past Lady Topper goalie Amy Uhlman (So, Louisville, Ky.). It would be the only score of the first half as Middle Tennessee led 1-0 at intermission. The Lady Raiders outshot Western 5-2 in the period.
The second half was a defensive struggle until the game's final minute when Miguez scored her second goal of the game at the 89:28 mark for the game's final score. For the game, Middle Tennessee outshot Western 16-9. Emily Shrum picked up the win in goal for the Blue Raiders. Uhlman (6-3-0) suffered the loss in goal for Western.
The Lady Toppers return to action Sunday afternoon against Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Ala. Match time is set for 1:00 PM (CDT).
