BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The NCAA women's basketball game between Western Kentucky University and the University of Arkansas, originally scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. (CST) in Fayetteville, Ark., has been postponed due to inclement weather. Ice storms have hit much of the state of Arkansas, making both air and ground travel hazardous.
Thursday's WKU-UA game has been rescheduled for Monday, February 19, 2001, at 7 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena. It will be added as part of the Lady Toppers' Sun Belt Conference road trip to Florida International (Feb. 15) and Arkansas-Little Rock (Feb. 17).
"It's unfortunate that we can't make it down to Arkansas for our game on Thursday night," Western head coach Steve Small said. "However, we won't jeopardize the safety of any member of the Lady Topper family by attempting to travel under these dangerous conditions. We appreciate the special efforts Coach Blair and his staff have made to ensure that this game will be played at a later date. All of us look forward to the opportunity to compete with Arkansas when we come down there in February."
With Thursday's postponement, Western Kentucky (6-4) will return to action on Sunday (New Year's Eve) when it plays host to Murray State in a 2 p.m. contest at E.A. Diddle Arena.
