Matt Giampa joined the WKU Football staff in the spring of 2025. He currently serves in a Quality Control – Quarterbacks role.
Giampa arrived on The Hill after spending the 2024 season at Abilene Christian, where he worked with WKU Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Rick Bowie as an Offensive Assistant. There, he helped one of the top passing offenses at the FCS level and helped the Wildcats to their first-ever national ranking at the Division I level, a United Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the FCS playoffs for the first time in program history, where they beat Northern Arizona in the first round.
While Giampa was at Abilene Christian, the Wildcats ranked fourth in total offense at 469.6 yards per game and 16th nationally in scoring at 33.8 points per game. Abilene Christian ranked seventh nationally in passing offense with quarterback Maverick McIvor. McIvor threw for 3,828 yards and 30 touchdowns to seven interceptions on 312-of-499 passing – an average of 294.5 yards through the air per game – during the 2024 season, and the quarterback was named a Second Team All-American by FCS Football Central and was an All-UAC First Team selection. McIvor ranked fourth in the FCS in total passing yards, fifth in passing yards per game, eighth in total offense, sixth in passing touchdowns, ninth in points responsible for, fourth in total completions and seventh in completions per game.
Before his lone season at Abilene Christian, Giampa spent two seasons at Valdosta State as a Graduate Assistant Quarterbacks Coach. He helped the Blazers to a 12-2 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals in 2023, as well as the Gulf South Conference title. Valdosta State's offense averaged 36.9 points per game and was in the top 10 nationally in passing yards per game and total touchdowns.
In 2022, Valdosta State was the only team in Division II to rank in the top 25 in both passing and rushing.
Giampa was at Division III Alvernia University from 2018-21 prior to coaching at Valdosta State. He joined the program in the spring of 2018 for the first season of football in program history, and served as Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs Coach. His special teams units performed at a high level and ranked in the top four in the conference in net punting, kickoff return yards allowed and punt return average. He also coached First Team All-Conference running back Malcolm Carey, who led the conference in rushing.
He was promoted to Offensive Line/Tight Ends Coach prior to the 2019 season, and he was elevated to Offensive Coordinator prior to the 2021 season.
Giampa was on the Villanova coaching staff prior to his time at Alvernia. There, he worked as a Special Teams Quality Control Coach and Defensive Assistant, and he was a large part of Villanova's top-rated defense. Villanova had one of the top three special teams units in the conference, with All-Conference selections at punter and returner.
He worked as a Defensive Assistant and Director of Operations at Ursinus College prior to his stint at Villanova.
Giampa is a 2016 graduate of Temple University, where he earned a degree in Sport and Recreation Management and worked as a Student Coaching Assistant for the school's football program. He earned his Master's in Business Administration from Alvernia in 2019.
