Beginning her second season on The Hill in 2014, Casey Garvey stays in her position with the WKU volleyball staff as a graduate assistant.
Garvey returns to her home state of Kentucky after a successful collegiate career at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
Playing in all but one match during her four years at Samford as the primary setter, Garvey finished her career ranked fourth all-time with 3,721 assists. Wearing the No. 1 jersey, Garvey had one of her best seasons during her junior campaign, as she set Samford's single-season record for assists with 1,431. Garvey had eight double-doubles in the 2011 season, including 48 assists and 11 digs in the Bulldogs' NCAA Tournament match against Cincinnati. As a senior, Garvey posted 1,332 assists to rank third on the single-season list as well as 10 double-doubles. She was also an ace at the service line, consistently ranking at the top of the team for aces in a season.
Garvey graduated from Samford with a degree in fitness and health promotion along with a minor in nutrition in May 2013.
Originally from Louisville, Ky., she is a 2009 graduate of Mercy Academy. Garvey led the Jaguars to nine championships, including district and regional championships each year and the 2008 Kentucky State Championship where she was named Most Valuable Player. An All-State and All-District honoree, Garvey earned ESPN's Athlete of the Week during her senior season and was the setter for the black team in the inaugural Under-Armour All-American High School Volleyball Match and Skills Competition.
Playing six years of club volleyball for MAVA, Garvey's teams never finished lower than third at AAU Nationals and fifth at the Junior Olympics in the Open Division. Garvey helped her team win the 2008 Wisconsin Dells Tournament and was a part of the 15s 2006 National Championship team. Named to numerous all-tournament teams, Garvey was an AAU All-American three-consecutive years.
Garvey isn't the only volleyball player in her family, as her brothers Eric and Todd played at the University of Kentucky.
