WKU added Student Assistant Coach Cassie Pennington to the staff on August 1st, 2017 after the Bowling Green native played with the Lady Toppers for three years. As she transitions from teammate to coach, Pennington looks forward to embracing a comprehensive approach that includes mental toughness, performance enhancement, an all-court explosive game and academic excellence. Pennington's goals as student assistant coach will be to aide Berhane and the team in a servant leadership model, and to enhance community outreach and awareness of the international and national talent WKU has assembled.
In 2016, as a redshirt freshman, Pennington tallied a singles win against Evansville’s Leah Helpingstine and won a doubles match against Lindsey Wilson. She participated in a total of 13 matches, splitting between singles and doubles. Her redshirt sophomore year consisted of a victory against Sara Beth Crowe of Belmont at the Evansville Invite. She also competed in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in that same fall season.
Pennington hails from Bowling Green where she played tennis at Greenwood High School. She won the 4th Region title five years in a row while advancing as far as the quarterfinals in the Kentucky State Tournament. Pennington is a Human Resource Management major at WKU.
