Jim Brophy joined the WKU staff in 2021 and currently works as the Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning. The 2024 season will be his fourth with the Hilltoppers.
Brophy assists with the WKU Football strength and conditioning and WKU Track and Field sprinters, and primarily works with the specialist programming. He also works with long-term injury athletes.
Since Brophy's arrival at WKU, the Hilltoppers have had four players selected in the NFL Draft, including three consecutive years with picks within the first three rounds from 2022-24 in defensive end DeAngelo Malone, nose tackle Brodric Martin, and receiver Malachi Corley. Malone was selected with the 82nd overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, Martin was the 96th overall pick by the Detroit Lions in 2023, and Corley was the 65th overall pick – becoming the second-highest drafted Hilltopper ever – in the 2024 NFL Draft. Quarterback Bailey Zappe was picked by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In addition to the four NFL Draft picks, numerous other WKU Football players have signed free agent deals and received camp invitations.
Brophy has helped the Hilltoppers to titles in the 2019 First Responder Bowl, the 2021 Boca Raton Bowl, the 2022 New Orleans Bowl, and the 2023 Famous Toastery Bowl. The Hilltoppers also claimed the 2021 Conference USA East Division title.
He graduated from the State University of New York College at Brockport with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science in 2020 and received a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Valdosta State in 2021.
Previously, Brophy worked as a strength and conditioning intern at Buffalo, Georgia Tech, and Notre Dame, and as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Valdosta State until August of 2021.
Brophy holds certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
