HS/MISC.: Loy prepped at Russell County High School, where he played quarterback for the Lakers. As a senior, he threw for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns on 74-of-130 passing in 11 games, and added 239 yards and six scores on 82 rushing attempts. As a junior, he threw for 962 yards and six touchdowns on 55-of-137 passing in eight games, and posted 191 yards and six touchdowns on 111 rushing attempts. He also posted 14 tackles and an interception he returned for 31 yards that season. As a sophomore, Loy threw for 1,438 yards and 11 touchdowns on 113-of-212 passing. He also rushed for 149 yards and three scores that season. Loy was also a standout on the baseball field at Russell County, hitting .373 with 21 RBIs and 21 runs scores, and leading the team with a 2.56 ERA over 54.2 innings pitched, including a team-high eight starts.
