2022 (r-Jr.) | 12/12: Hailassie started all 12 games he appeared in for WKU in 2022. He was a disrupter in both the offensive and defensive backfields all season, making 65 tackles from his corner position, eight of them being for loss. Hailassie recorded a sack in each of WKU's first three games of the year. He recorded two interceptions on the year, both in wins over FIU and UAB. His interception against UAB came on the Blazers' final drive of the game as they attempted to take the lead, but Hailassie stepped in front of a pass headed toward the end zone to secure the win for the Tops. That performance earned hm C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors. In addition to his two interceptions, Hailassie broke up an additional 10 passes. He also forced two fumbles and recorded one. For his efforts, he was named to the All-C-USA Second Team.
2021 (r-So.) | 14/14: Hailassie started every one of WKU's 14 games en route to the team winning a Conference USA East Division Championship. He finished fifth on the team in tackles with 57, including three for loss. From his cornerback position, Hailassie intercepted two passes and broke up an additional five. His season high for tackles came twice in road games at Michigan State and Marshall, and he finished the season strong with interceptions in back-to-back wins over Middle Tennessee and Rice. For his efforts on the year, Hailassie was named C-USA Honorable Mention.
Before WKU: Hailassie played in all 13 games as a freshman for Oregon in 2018, primarily at cornerback and on the punt return unit. Played a season-high 31 snaps and make one tackle in the season opener against Bowling Green. Then transferred to Independence CC and was on the Pirates' roster prior to signing with the Hilltoppers.
HS/Misc.: Hailassie was a consensus three-star by ESPN.com, Rivals and 247Sports. Rated the No. 81 cornerback in the class by ESPN.com and was a top 100 cornerback by the 247Sports composite rating. Participated in Nike’s The Opening Regional in Oakland. Totaled 1,262 all-purpose yards over 18 games his two seasons at Cosumnes Oaks High School. Averaged 23.8 yards per catch as a wide receiver in 2017. Scored a touchdown three different ways as a junior in 2016; scored 10 touchdowns with seven through the air, two on punt returns and another on a scoop-and-score. Also had 31 receptions for 614 yards with 64 tackles and one interception on defense. Originally chose Oregon over Colorado, Florida Atlantic, Fresno State, Hawaii, Howard, Nevada, New Mexico State, San Jose State, UNLV, UTEP, Washington State, Wyoming and Utah State.
