Before WKU: After redshirting the 2018 season, Carothers played in 20 games – including 12 starts – over the next two years. He rushed 208 times for 1,092 yards (5.3 average) and 16 touchdowns on the ground, while recording eight receptions for 208 yards (26.0 average) and three touchdowns as well. In 2019, was Navy's leading rusher with 734 yards on 111 carries (6.6 average) with 14 touchdowns, while also catching four passes for 105 yards and two scores. Ranked 16th in FBS with 14 rushing scores, 11th with 9.6 points scored per game and seventh with 6.6 yards per carry. Gained 16 yards on his first career carry on Oct. 12 at Tulsa. Had stand-out performances on Oct. 26 vs. Tulane (14 rushes for 154 yards and three touchdowns, plus a 31-yard touchdown catch) and on Nov. 30 at Houston (18 rushes for 188 yards and five touchdowns, plus a 47-yard reception). Was named Co-American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week against the Green Wave and was named AAC Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against the Cougars. His five scores at Houston were a program-record by a non-quarterback, and his 188 yards were the most by a Midshipmen fullback since Alexander Teich's 210 vs. Notre Dame on Oct. 23, 2010. Also had three rushing touchdowns on Nov. 1 at UConn and a season-high 22 rushes – for 75 yards – on Dec. 14 vs. Army. Carothers earned 2019 First Team All-ECAC honors and was a 2020 Doak Walker Watch List member. In 2020, was Navy's second-leading rusher with 358 yards on 97 carries (3.7 average) with two touchdowns, while also catching four passes for 103 yards and one score. Had a career-high 25 carries for a season-high 127 yards on Sept. 19 at Tulane, including a season-long rush of 48. Had two receptions for 91 yards and one score on Oct. 31 at SMU, including a career-long 62-yard touchdown catch.
HS/Misc.: Carothers played for head coach Kevin Wallace at Bowling Green HS, helping lead the Purples to back-to-back Class 5A State Championships in 2015 and 2016. As a senior, rushed for 1,410 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground, while adding 884 receiving yards and 11 scores through the air. Was named the 2016 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year and the Commonwealth’s Mr. Football by the Associated Press. Graduated as the program’s all-time leader with 3,921 rush yards and 514 points scored. In his four seasons, the Purples won three state titles (also in 2013) and complied a 54-3 overall record. Earned four letters in football and three in basketball. Also received offers from Army, Austin Peay and Eastern Michigan. Attended the Naval Academy Prep School for a year after graduating from Bowling Green HS in 2017. Majored in quantitative economics at Navy.
