The 2023 season was the first for Luke Johnson at WKU. He works on the defensive side of the ball with the linebacker group as a Graduate Assistant.
Johnson helped coach one of the top defenses in the country when it came to producing takeaways. The Hilltoppers recorded 26 turnovers gained, which led Conference USA and ranked tied for seventh nationally. WKU's 11 fumble recoveries were seventh nationally and the 15 passes intercepted were 15th in the country – marks that ranked first and second in CUSA, respectively.Â
He arrived on The Hill by way of Sioux Falls, where he served as Linebackers Coach for the 2022Â season. Before USF, Johnson spent two seasons at Wofford. At Wofford, Johnson started as a Quality Control Coach in 2020 before being promoted to Linebackers Coach in 2021.
Johnson played his college football at Wisconsin-Platteville, serving as one of the team’s captains. He graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2019.
