Kim Helton, one of the games most respected offensive line coaches, begins his first season with the Hilltoppers as an offensive analyst where he assists his son, head coach Tyson Helton.
Helton, the former head coach at the University of Houston (1993-99), has nearly 50 years of coaching experience which includes 12 years in the National Football League with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1983-86), Houston Oilers (1987-89), Los Angeles Raiders (1990-92), and Washington Redskins (2002-03).
Between his time with the Raiders and Redskins, Helton spent seven seasons as the head coach at Houston where he navigated the move from the Southwest Conference to Conference USA in 1996 and posted two of the only three winning seasons Houston would enjoy from 1991 to 2004. In 1996, the Cougars won a share of the first-ever Conference USA title with a 4-1 mark, their first conferene title of any type in 13 years. He also led the program to its first bowl game since 1998.
