Cheer Tryouts
Recruitment Process
All candidates wishing to be part of our recruitment process must submit a 2026‐27 Cheer Recruitment Application (coming soon) with the required recruitment video. When you fill out the recruitment form/application, it will prompt you to list the link to your video. Please upload your video and paste the link (i.e., make a Private video on YouTube, Video, Dropbox, etc.) onto the form.
To be eligible for the recruitment process you must complete the form with video submission by February 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CT, and be formally accepted into the University. Further information about tryouts will be shared with those who receive an invitation for the recruitment process.

The criteria for the required video are listed below.
Recruitment Video Criteria:
Videos do not have to be produced professionally, but your image, introduction, and skills demonstrated should highlight all your strengths as a student‐athlete in a professional manner. An applicant’s tryout videos must also adhere to USA Cheer guidelines.
– Videos must be filmed horizontally.
– No music in any of the clips.
– Videos must be current and within the last two months.
– Only one video of each skill is permitted. (Will not watch multiple videos of the same skill.)
– Videos from workshops, camps, combines or clinics are NOT accepted.
Attire:
Females: Black fitted top, black shorts, red ribbon, mid ponytail curled, gameday makeup with red lipstick
Males: Black T-shirt, Black Shorts
Video Production Order:
1. Personal Introduction (30-45 seconds: name, which team you will be trying out for, your stunting position, hometown, cheer team/gym, brief description of why you want to be a part of WKU Cheer and why you want to attend Western Kentucky University.)
2. Tumbling: (Please add all tumbling skills listed below in the exact order. All skills to be demonstrated on grass, turf, or dead floor.)
- Standing Back Tuck
- Round off BHS full (or your best running pass)
- One/Two Specialty standing pass (Where you would demonstrate a standing full as well as your best standing pass. Skills do not have to be connected.)
- One/Two Specialty running pass (whips, Arabian, full to full)
3. Stunting: (Listed below are the stunting requirements.)
a. Game Day Stunts: (Please add all stunts listed below in the exact order.)
– Toss Extension
– Toss Immediate lib
– Toss Heel Stretch
– Toss Cupie
– Full Up
b. Basic Flipping Stunts: (Please choose THREE or more of the following skills & demonstrate to your best ability)
– FHS Up
– BHS/BHS Full Up
– Rewind
– Hand in Hand
c. Elite Flipping Stunts: (If you cannot demonstrate basic flipping skills to proficiency, this section is not recommended. Please choose THREE or more of the following skills if applicable)
– FHS 1.5 (Ariel 1.5)
– BHS Full/Double Up
– Rewind (QP, One Arm, Full Twisting)
– Inversions (Extended to Cupie, Front Pop, Full to Feet, Handski, etc.)
Applicants’ videos must adhere to the USA Cheer Guidelines.
