Randy Magill joined the WKU Athletics staff in September 2016 as an Associate Athletic Director and serves as the department's Chief Financial Officer. He oversees all business transactions for WKU Athletics.
Magill's responsibilities include preparing and reviewing the annual budget for all WKU sport programs and support departments, communicating with university administration on budget issues, monitoring athletic scholarships and preparing the school's annual NCAA audit. Magill is also responsible for approving expenses in accordance with the state's purchasing procedures, reviewing cash receipts, and special projects as assigned by the athletic director.
A native of Chillicothe, Ohio, Magill came to WKU following a four-year run at the University of North Dakota where he worked in a similar capacity. While at UND, Magill collaborated with the University's vice president and senior financial management groups on financial, budget and capital project management. He was responsible for $25 million in capital projects including construction of a new weight facility, indoor football practice facility and reconstruction of a competition soccer field. Additionally, Magill was responsible for reviewing and providing advisement on the department's facility rental agreements, multi-media rights agreements and apparel deals.
Magill was also the program administrator for the school's baseball team and worked extensively with North Dakota's national championship men's ice hockey team.
Prior to going to UND, Magill spent four years at UNC-Wilmington (2009-12), his final two as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Affairs. During his time at UNCW, Magill was the program administrator for the track and field programs as well as the Chief Financial Officer for the 2010 NCAA Women's Golf Championship. He was also instrumental in the department's negotiations with apparel provider Adidas.
Magill's other previous stops in athletics administration include Campbell University (2004-09), Commissioner of the Great South Athletic Conference (2002-03) and Director of Athletics at Wesleyan College (2002-03). Prior to moving into business affairs, Magill was an assistant and head basketball coach on both the men's and women's sides with stops at South Alabama (1994-95, women), North Dakota (1992-94, men), and Ohio University-Chillicothe (1988-89, men; 1989-92; head women's).
Magill earned his degree in Business Administration from Ohio University in 1986 and his MBA from LaSalle University in 1991. Magill later added a master of Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy in 1994.
He is married to the former Heather Lee and the couple have one daughter, Hayden.
