2016 (r-Jr.) | 12/7: Sims shifted into a unique role midway through the 2016 season, starting seven games but just one (Vanderbilt) at offensive tackle. Sims played in 12 games but started six as a blocking tight end, beginning with the Middle Tennessee game. It was arguably the turning point of the season for the Hilltoppers. Prior to Sims moving to tight end (first six games), WKU averaged 36.5 points, 458 yards per game and 133 yards per game on the ground. After Sims moved to tight end, the HIlltoppers exploded for 52.2 points, 571 yards per game and 226 yards per game on the ground.
2015 (r-So.) | 12/0: Sims saw time in 12 games on the year, primarily as a reserve tackle along the offensive line. Initially used as a protector on field goal and extra-point units, Sims saw his snaps increase at right tackle as the season progressed.
2014 (r-Fr.) | 9/0: Sims appeared in nine games during his first season of action. He acted primarily as a protector on field goal and extra-point units. Sims converted from offensive line to defensive line, adding depth to the interior line, during the latter stages of the season.
2013 (Fr.): Sims redshirted his first season on The Hill.
HS/Misc.: Sims helped McDonogh 35 Senior High School in Louisiana to back-to-back eight-win seasons in 2011 and 2012, anchoring an offensive front that helped the Roneagles reach the state semifinals in 2012. Despite sitting at 4-5 late in the 2012 season, Sims and McDonogh 35 put together four consecutive wins to reach the semifinals, before ultimately falling to Neville High School. Sims took part in the 2013 Lake Pontchartrain All-Star Football Classic, while also earning a mention as one of the top offensive lineman in the state of Louisiana in the 2013 class by the Louisiana Football Magazine.
