BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football wide receiver Jonathan Stafford Jr. was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, CUSA announced Monday.
The true freshman led WKU with 85 all-purpose yards in the 52-7 blowout victory over Mercyhurst in the home opener on Saturday at Houchens-Smith Stadium. Stafford led the Hilltoppers with six receptions, recording 66 yards on those six catches. He also had a 17-yard punt return in the victory.
Stafford is WKU's leading receiver through four games this season with 20 catches for 158 yards, and he is second on the team in all-purpose yards with 207.
It is WKU's first CUSA weekly award this season.
WKU improved to 1-3 this season with the win and will enter CUSA play this Thursday, Oct. 1, at New Mexico State. Kickoff at Aggie Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
