BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Senior defender Alaina Nugier and Freshman goalkeeper Emma Teague were named Conference USA Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Nugier earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Teague was named Goalkeeper of the Week. Both earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
Nugier and Teague helped lead the Hilltoppers (6-0-4) to a 1-0-1 finish last week. WKU defeated SEMO, 4-1, on Thursday, and tied Lindenwood on Sunday, 0-0, to finish non-conference play undefeated for just the second time in program history.
Nugier was a key part of the Hilltoppers' defensive efforts last week, helping WKU earn a shutout on Senior Day against Lindenwood. She provided clean 1v1 defending throughout the match and consistently disrupted the Lions' attack, while also starting key attacks out of the back. Across both matches last week, Nugier played 135 minutes and helped limit each opponent to fewer than eight shots.
Teague played 118 minutes in goal and earned the shutout against Lindenwood. She recorded a career-high three saves, including a jumping save that kept the game scoreless, while also successfully directing the back line and helping keep the defense organized. Her performance in goal helped WKU extend its unbeaten streak to 10 matches.
WKU will begin CUSA play on the road this weekend. The Hilltoppers will take on Liberty Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 a.m. (CT) at Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia.
