HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the Hilltoppers outshooting the Lions, 7-5, in the opening frame, WKU could not get anything going offensively. Maggie Bellair recorded WKU's lone shot on target in the first half, forcing the Lindenwood goalkeeper to make a save in the ninth minute. The Lions threatened in the 42nd minute, when Emma Teague made a save to keep the match scoreless heading into the second half.
The Hilltoppers continued to apply pressure in a physical second half, recording seven shots and six corner kicks. Alyvia Walls and April McDonald each put shots on target, but the Lindenwood goalkeeper turned both away. WKU continued to create chances late, with Bellair forcing another save in the 78th minute, while Emma Teague made two impressive saves in the final 10 minutes to keep the match scoreless.
QUOTABLE
"I give full credit to Lindenwood," said Head Coach Jason Neidell. "I thought they came in with a great game plan and disrupted our attack. We struggled in moments to get the ball down and play and to keep the game simple. I am really happy to pitch another shutout. Emma Teague came off the bench into a tough environment and was great in her communication and super clean in all her goalkeeper actions, including a huge save late that kept the score even. I'm really proud of her. It's unfortunate that we couldn't pull through for our seniors today. They mean so much to our program, and we are excited there's still lots more soccer ahead for them and their teammates this season."
