BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Three members of the WKU Soccer team have been named to the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference Team, the organization announced on Thursday. Abby Wiedermann as a defender, Georgia Liapis as a midfielder and Makenna Egan as a forward earned a place on the 11-person team.
The Hilltoppers were also picked to finish fourth in the league by the conference coaches, behind Liberty, who received nine first-place votes, Missouri State and Delaware, who received one first-place vote.
Wiedermann was named to the All-CUSA First Team last season after a stellar season on the backline for WKU. She earned Defensive Player of the Week twice last season for her play. She anchored a defense that held teams to 0.86 goals per game, the second lowest mark in the league.
Liapis was named the CUSA Midfielder of the Year last season and earned All-CUSA First Team honors. She was named CUSA Player of the Week twice and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week. She paced the team on offense with nine goals and two assists. Those nine goals were tied for the second most in CUSA and her five goals in the conference play was tied for the most.
Egan was named the CUSA Freshman of the Year last season while also earning CUSA All-Freshman and All-CUSA Second Team honors. Her five goals were the second most on the team. She also dished out four assists.
The Hilltoppers face Samford on Friday, Aug. 7 at 2:00 PM at the WKU Soccer Complex in a preseason exhibition game. WKU will officially open the season against SEC foe Missouri on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7:00 PM at the WKU Soccer Complex. Admission to all games at the WKU Soccer Complex is free.
