BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Redshirt senior goalkeeper Mia Riddick and sophomore forward were named Conference USA Players of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Riddick earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors and Egan was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Riddick and Egan guided the Hilltoppers (1-0-1) to a win and a tie in the opening week. WKU posted a 1-0 win against Indiana State on Sunday and notched a 0-0 tie against Southeastern Conference foe Missouri last Thursday. It was the first time the Hilltoppers have earned back-to-back shutouts to start the season since 2021.
Riddick earned the two clean sheets with a combined eight saves on the week, including a quick-acting save on a header that resulted from a corner kick against Missouri and a tough punch out on a hard-kicked, close-range shot against Indiana State. Including the two exhibition matches, Riddick has not given up a goal in the run of play this season.
Egan scored the game-winning goal for the Hilltoppers against Indiana State on Sunday. After a scoreless first half, Egan broke through in the 54th minute, scoring the lone goal of the match. It was the sixth goal of her career on The Hill.
WKU continues the season this week with a pair of home matches. The Hilltoppers will host UAB on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 PM and Ball State on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 1 PM. Admission to all WKU Soccer games at the WKU Soccer Complex is free.
