HOW IT HAPPENED
Trinity Rowe, Torri James, Tia Shelling, Salma Khedr and Zsofia Telegdy were the first five on the court for WKU. It is the first time this season that combination has started a game together and it's the ninth starting lineup of the season for the Lady Toppers.
Sam Houston scored first with a three. Telegdy was the first to score for WKU. Shelling put WKU ahead with a layup in transition following a steal from Khedr. The Bearkats responded with a three to go back ahead, but Telegdy connected on a three on the next possession to put WKU back on top, 7-6. Sam Houston scored five straight after that to go ahead. WKU scored the final basket of the quarter at the 3:39 to make the score 11-9. Both teams went on scoring droughts in the final minutes of the frame.
Rowe scored the first points of the second quarter on a 3-pointer to put WKU ahead, 12-11. The Bearkats responded with a 9-0 run that expanded to a 13-2 run. Rowe made her second three with 1:09 left in the half to cut the lead down to seven. Sam Houston scored with 12 seconds left to take a 26-17 lead into halftime.
Sam Houston expanded the lead out to 12 to start the third quarter. The two teams went back and forth, but a three from Trinity at the 3:50 mark cut the lead down to eight. From there the Bearkats outscored WKU 9-3 to take a 42-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
Back-to-back layups from Shelling to start the fourth quarter cut the lead down to 10, but that was as close as it would get the rest of the game.
