DALLAS, Texas – Conference USA announced its Player of the Week accolades for Week 4, with WKU Volleyball taking all but one.
Faith Young earned her first Defensive Player of the Week honor in her career after an explosive weekend highlighted by a team-high 11 blocks and an average of 1.22 blocks per set. She had a weekend-high six blocks against High Point, where she also posted eight kills. Arguably her best match was against VCU, when she collected 11 kills and one service ace. She also collected three digs and one block.
Kaira Knox earned her second Freshman of the Week honor after a weekend that saw her finish with 30 kills and a .333 hitting clip. Knox averaged 10 kills per match and posted a weekend-high 11 kills twice. A six-rotation player for the Hilltoppers (5-2 overall), Knox also contributed at the service line with five service aces, the most of any Hilltopper across the three matches. On defense, Knox helped anchor the back row with 22 digs and also finished with five blocks. She was responsible for 21.4% of WKU's offense and helped WKU to a perfect 3-0, nine-set sweep of the weekend.
Callie Bauer earned her first Setter of the Week honor after finishing with 105 assists on the weekend. She led the Hilltoppers to a .309 hitting percentage and contributed 10 kills of her own, highlighted by a six-kill performance against VCU. Bauer was also responsible for 80.2% of WKU's assists and collected two service aces. She led WKU's offense to 140 kills and a perfect nine-set sweep of all three opponents. On the defensive front, she racked up 27 digs and five blocks. Against VCU, she also recorded the first double-double of the season with 35 assists and 10 digs.
The next match for the Hilltoppers is Tuesday, Sept. 16, against Vanderbilt. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT.
