BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football quarterback Maverick McIvor has been named Monday Morning Quarterback for the East-West Shrine Bowl, the organization announced Monday.
The award is given out to an all-star game eligible quarterback that displayed the most NFL traits that week.
McIvor's recognition comes after leading the Hilltoppers to a 41-24 victory over Sam Houston on Saturday at Houchens-Smith Stadium in his debut with the program.
McIvor threw for 401 yards and three touchdowns on 33-of-51 passing with no interceptions. He also recorded a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help close out the Week 0 Conference USA victory. McIvor's touchdown passes were 26 yards to Matthew Henry, 9 yards to K.D. Hutchinson and 22 yards to Marvis Parrish. McIvor completed eight passes of 15-or-more yards, and had six completions of 20-or-more yards in the win.
Each year, hundreds of the top collegiate stars are either taken in the NFL Draft or sign as free agents, and the East-West Shrine Bowl provides these NFL hopefuls with an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills while supporting the life-changing mission of Shriners Children's. The East-West Shrine Bowl will take place at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on Jan. 27, 2026.
Several former Hilltoppers have played in the East-West Shrine Bowl in recent years, including quarterback Austin Reed in 2024, defensive lineman Brodric Martin and Kahlef Hailassie in 2023, and Jerreth Sterns in 2021.
WKU will stay at home and face North Alabama on Saturday, Aug. 30. Kickoff at Houchens-Smith Stadium is set for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
