DALLAS, Texas – Conference USA announced its weekly Players of the Week on Monday, with setter Callie Bauer and opposite hitter Kaira Knox earning Setter of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
Monday's announcement marks the sixth time Bauer has earned the honor and the third time Knox has been recognized.
Bauer's sixth Setter of the Week comes after a weekend with 68 total assists and an average of 11.33 assists per set. The Michigan native was also the complete package across the six sets, recording three kills, a team-high five service aces, 10 digs, and three blocks. Her best match was on Saturday as Bauer recorded 31 assists, three service aces, and eight digs. She's currently ranked second in CUSA in assists per set at 9.86 and is fourth in total assists with 769. Bauer's efforts this season have also led the Hilltoppers to the third-best hitting percentage in the country (.306).
WKU's freshman opposite hitter has had a breakout season with the Hilltoppers and continued her campaign against MTSU. Knox recorded 23 kills over the six sets thanks to a staggering .452 hitting percentage and an average of 3.83 kills per set. She was also responsible for almost 30% of WKU's kills against MTSU and is currently eighth in the conference in kills per set with 3.21. A six-rotation player for the Tops, Knox registered seven digs and recorded three blocks. Knox also brought her season service ace total to 12 after posting one service ace. Between the two matches, her best performance was a 15 kill, three-set match against the Blue Raiders on Friday when she posted her highest single match hitting percentage of the season, .737. Knox has also contributed 16% of WKU's total kills this season to help the Tops to the third-best hitting percentage in the country.
The Hilltoppers close out their home portion of the conference slate this weekend, Nov. 7 & 8, against Delaware. First serve on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
