DALLAS, Texas – Conference USA announced its weekly Players of the Week on Monday, with middle hitter Izzy Van De Wiele earning her second Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Van De Wiele had arguably the best two-match performance of the season in the seven-set sweep of the Blue Hens, finishing with 15 total blocks including four solo stuffs. The Iowa native posted an average of 2.14 blocks per set and was responsible for almost 70% of WKU's total blocks against Delaware.
The junior middle hitter leads the Hilltoppers in total blocks with 86 and blocks per set with 1.28/set. Her average of 1.28 blocks per set is also good enough to put her first in the conference in that respective category. She's also fourth in solo blocks with 16 and is sixth in block assists with 70.
Putting together an all-around performance, she also finished with the second most kills on the weekend, 28, with a staggering .480 hitting percentage and an incredible 4.00 kills per set. Van De Wiele's 28 kills also accounted for almost 27% of WKU's total kills over the weekend while only committing four hitting errors on 50 total attacks. Last but certainly not least, Van De Wiele's season hitting percentage of .344 is currently sixth best in the conference.
The Hilltoppers wrap up their 2025 regular season schedule with a pair of matches against the Liberty Flames in Lynchburg, Va., Nov. 14 & 15. First serve on Friday is set for 5 p.m. CT.
