DALLAS – WKU Soccer senior goalkeeper Maddie Davis, freshman forward Makenna Egan, and sophomore defender Abby Wiedermann have been named the Conference USA Players of the Week following WKU's 2-0 road trip last week.
Davis was named CUSA Goalkeeper of the Week, Egan was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Wiedermann was named Defensive Player of the Week.
On the accomplishment head coach Jason Neidell said "It's tough to play on the road in this league. Getting two shutout wins speaks volumes about the mentality of this team right now. These are well-deserved individual recognitions for Makenna, Abby and Maddie. These are also team awards that they accomplished because of the resolve and commitment of the entire group."
Davis was named the league's goalkeeper of the week following two shutout wins this past week in 1-0 wins over Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston. This marks the fourth for Davis in her WKU career and her first this season.
Davis recorded two saves against Louisiana Tech and six saves against Sam Houston. Davis was the only CUSA goalkeeper that didn't allow a single goal over the weekend. Her two shutouts are tied for the most in league play this season. Davis is currently allowing 0.706 goals per game which is second in CUSA and also has the second highest save percentage in CUSA (0.846).
Makenna Egan earns CUSA Offensive Player of the Week following her stellar performance in the two wins this past week. Egan scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Louisiana Tech Thursday, marking the second winning goal of the season for the freshman from Palm Harbor, Fla. Egan finished with two shots and one goal in 83 minutes against Louisiana Tech and assisted in the game winning goal scored in the last nine seconds of WKU's 1-0 win over Sam Houston Sunday. Egan is second on the team in goals scored and first in assists. Her five points since league play began are the second most in CUSA.
This is the first CUSA weekly honor for Egan and the second Offensive Player of the Week for WKU in the last three weeks.
Wiedermann earned CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and for the third time in her WKU career.
Wiedermann started and played the full 90 minutes in both shutout road wins over Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston. The sophomore contributed to three blocked shots in the 1-0 win over Sam Houston, two of which came within the final three minutes of the match. Wiedermann leads the team in total minutes and has played the full 90 minutes 10 times this season.Â
WKU will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 12 in a pivotal conference matchup at Missouri State. Kick-off from Springfield is set for 1 p.m. CT.
