Kinley Kunkel again led the charge for WKU, setting a new personal best and taking fourth place in a race that featured over 160 runners. Kunkel was one of six Hilltoppers to set a PR in the women's 6K.Â
In the men's event, Jake Younger led the way for the Tops, setting a new PR in the process. Younger was one of three in the men's race to set a new personal best mark.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The men's 8K kicked off action on Friday morning at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course. There, Jake Younger guided the Hilltoppers to an eighth place team finish. Younger wound up in 30th place out of over 200 runners.
Mikie Carnell became the second Hilltopper to set a PR on the course Friday. He followed behind Younger, taking 39th in the race. Hollis Johnson became the third in WKU Red to cross the finish line in the top-50 for the men.
One more Hilltopper in Sam Herbig set a PR in the 8K race. Herbig's time was nearly 46 seconds faster than his previous PR set in the last meet a few weeks ago in Terre Haute.
In the women's 6k race, Kunkel again led the way for WKU, claiming a fourth place finish, following closely behind a trio from Cincinnati. Kunkel set a PR in the race which was nearly 13 seconds faster than her previous. Kunkel finished fourth among 163 total runners in the 6k race.
Kunkel was followed by a freshman in Brooke Greenwell who became the second in the 6k race to set a new PR. Greenwell claimed a 38th place finish, marking the second in the top-50 for WKU.
The next three to cross the finish line for WKU set a new PR in Caterina Rossomanno, Kathryn Harris, and Sofia Witt. For Witt, this marked the second straight meet where she set a new personal best. Tatum Maschhoff followed suit and set a new PR as well for the second consecutive meet.
NOTABLESÂ
- Kinley Kunkel set a new personal best on Friday morning, claiming 4th place, clocking in at 21:02, 13 seconds faster than her previous 6K PR.
- Brooke Greenwell, Caterina Rossomanno, Kathryn Harris, Sofia Witt, and Tatum Maschhoff all crossed the finish line with a new personal best on Friday.
- Greenwell finished within the top-50, taking 39th with a mark of 22:19.
- Jake Younger led the way for the men on Friday morning, setting a new PR in the 8k and claiming a top-30 finish.
- Younger set a new PR of 24:56 which is over 25 seconds better than his previous PR set at the Southern Showcase earlier in the season.
- Mikie Carnell set a PR on Friday morning, finishing up in 25:12, beating his previous PR set at the Southern Showcase.
- Another freshman in the men's 8k, Sam Herbig, set a PR as well on Friday morning. His time of 25:32 was nearly 46 seconds faster than his previous best set in the Hilltoppers' last meet at the XC Town Twilight.
- In total, nine Hilltoppers set new personal records on the course Friday morning. The women's team had six do so while the men managed three.
