A couple WKU Alumni who currently play in the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) hit the court this weekend - this time on opposite sides of the net. Â
Paige Briggs-Romine ('23) helped Grand Rapids Rise to a 3-2 over Columbus Fury, where Kaylee Cox ('24) is spending her first professional season. Â
The Grand Rapids Rise completed a 3-0 run after dropping the first two sets of the match on Sunday, marking the PVF's first ever reverse sweep win. Â
Briggs-Romine played in four of five sets on Sunday, starting in the last two. The 5'10" outside hitter notched five kills, three digs, and zero errors on 13 serve receptions (62% positive reception percentage). Her efficiency in the back row kept the Rise in-system on offense, giving setter August Raskie the opportunity to feed the hot-hitters and mark 45 assists. Â
Despite the loss, Cox had a big game for the Columbus Fury. The six-rotation outside hitter totaled eight kills, three blocks, 15 digs, and two aces. She started in all five sets, playing a huge role in the Fury's offensive success in the first two sets of the match. Â
The Rise and Fury will have to move on from the match quickly, though - the pair will meet again on Friday, Feb. 7 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus for their second matchup of the season. Â
