BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football Defensive Line Coach Carson Hall was named a 30Under30 top young coach or staff member in college football by 247Sports, the publication announced Tuesday.
The list, which is in its eighth iteration, aims to identify future head coaches and coordinators by surveying dozens of contacts across the industry to find the best sub-age-30 coaches and staffers in college football. The full story can be found HERE.
Hall enters his second season at WKU after a two-year run at Georgia as an Assistant Defensive Line Coach, where he helped the Bulldogs to a 29-1 record and back-to-back national championships.
The 29-year-old helped lead an aggressive Hilltopper defense in 2023 during his first season with the program. The Hilltoppers recorded 26 takeaways, which led Conference USA and ranked tied for seventh nationally. WKU's 11 fumble recoveries were seventh nationally and the 15 passes intercepted were 15th in the country – marks that ranked first and second in CUSA, respectively. Hall coached defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler to All-Conference USA Second Team honors, while defensive end Deante McCray earned CUSA All-Freshman Team honors. Following the season, nose tackle Kenyonte Davis earned a rookie mini camp invitation from the New York Giants.
Before joining the staff at Georgia, Hall had a brief stop at LSU where he spent the 2021 spring season with the Tigers as an Assistant Defensive Line Coach. Before joining LSU, he was a Graduate Assistant at Illinois from 2019-20. Hall helped the Illini qualify for a bowl game in his first season – the program's first in five years.
Hall started his coaching career at Valdosta State where he was an assistant working with the team's outside linebackers. Valdosta State went a perfect 14-0 that year under Hall's leadership and went on to beat Ferris State to claim the Division II National Championship.
WKU is scheduled to kick off the 2024 season with a 6 p.m. CT game at Alabama on Saturday, Aug. 31. The Hilltoppers will host Eastern Kentucky for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m. CT, and will open CUSA play the following week with a 6 p.m. CT game at Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Sept. 14.
