INDIANAPOLIS – Three athletes from the WKU Track and Field team have qualified for east prelims, the NCAA announced on Thursday. Ajla Basic, Katie Isenbarger, and Kameron Horton will be the three athletes representing the Hilltoppers at the NCAA East Regional, May 22-25, at the University of Kentucky.Â
Basic will be competing in the hammer throw, Isenbarger will compete in the high jump, and Horton will run in the 100 meter dash.
This marks the third consecutive year that Basic has qualified for regionals. The native of Sarajevo, Bosnia set a new career best at the Joe Walker Invitational in April. The throw of 62.82 meters ranks 13th in the East Region, according to TFRRS.
For Isenbarger, this is the fourth time in four tries she has qualified for the preliminary round. The Graduate Senior set a new program record, jumping 1.88 meters at the Music City Challenge. This mark is the second in the East Region and the eighth best in all of NCAA DI.
The occasion marks the first for Horton, who set a new personal best in the 100 meter dash (10.25) at the Conference USA Championships last weekend. His mark stands as the 46th best in the East Region.
Horton will run at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 22. Basic is set to throw Thursday, May 23 at 9 a.m. CT. Isenbarger will jump on Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. CT.
The qualifiers out of the East and West regions will compete at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
