BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Athletics is excited to launch the second year of Big Red's Summer Reading Challenge, a program that will enable qualified kids in the Bowling Green and surrounding communities to earn free tickets to a 2024 WKU Football game.
Big Red's Summer Reading Challenge is designed specifically for kids in grades 1-8 who attend schools in the area. This year, all KSBA Third Region Schools are invited to participate. This includes schools in Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Grayson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Todd, Simpson, and Warren County. The program supports a strong partnership between WKU Athletics and schools in the local community. The goal of the program is for WKU Athletics and student-athletes to empower students to continue reading throughout the summer months.
To complete Big Red's Summer Reading Challenge, qualified students must fulfill the reading requirements based on their grade group and complete the associated reading journal. The journal can be submitted online, in-person at the WKU Ticket Office, or in the student's classroom during the first week of school (Aug. 12-16). Submissions will be accepted starting July 1 and run through Aug. 16. Students who complete the challenge will earn two free tickets to any 2024 WKU Football home game.
Once the challenge has been completed and the journal has been submitted, students and their families have two options to redeem their free tickets. Any student who submits a journal will be added to a list and can pick up their tickets on the gameday of their choice at Will Call, located at Gate 3 and Gate 4 at Houchens-Smith Stadium. If chosen to submit in person at the WKU Ticket Office, tickets can be claimed there on the spot or wait and pick them up at Will Call.
There is no limit to the number of kids per household who can complete the challenge, but only one journal can be submitted per child. Families who need to purchase additional tickets as part of the summer reading challenge can do so at a discounted rate of $10 per ticket if their child has submitted a journal. Ages two and under are free to attend football games at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
Parents or fans with questions about Big Red's Summer Reading Challenge can contact Audrey Griffin via email at audrey.griffin@wku.edu, or call the WKU Ticket Office at 1-800-5-BIG-RED.
