BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Baseball (6-3) lost to the Kentucky Wildcats (7-1) 5-0 on Tuesday night at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington, Ky.
The Hilltoppers were shutout for the first time this year, only recording three hits in the contest.
Senior Cory Bosecker earned the midweek start for WKU, his first of the season. The southpaw threw two scoreless innings only allowing one hit, but a three-run third inning from the Wildcats forced the Hilltoppers to turn to the bullpen. WKU turned to junior Hunter Small for the next 1.1 innings. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits with two walks before Lane Diuguid checked in out of the pen. The senior conceded one run on one hit while striking out two Wildcats in 2.1 innings, his longest outing of the season thus far. Redshirt Junior Cole Heath made his first appearance of the season, entering to start the seventh inning. The Henderson, Tenn. native held the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the contest, tallying two strikeouts while only surrendering one hit and one walk.
It was a quiet night on the offensive end for WKU, only advancing into scoring position five times. Sophomore Camden Ross reached base four times, drawing three walks and notching one base hit. The other two hits came off an infield single from Dylan O'Connell and a triple from Zayd Brannigan in the top of the ninth with two outs.
