BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis Head Coach Greg Davis announced the signing of Virginia Madueño Pita on Thursday.
"We're really excited to have Virginia coming aboard for next fall," Davis said. "She's a really talented player who I think is only going to get better between now and coming to campus next August. She's been highly ranked in Spain in the top 100. We look forward to her arrival on The Hill next August."
Madueño Pita, who is from Alicante, Spain, and will join the team next fall.
She has a national ranking of 136, and she has found success in many tournaments, including winning the singles championship at the 2024 U18 Champion Bowl Valencia, the singles championship at the 2023 U16 Champion Bowl Spain Master (Valencia), the singles championship in the 2023 U16 Champion Bowl World Finals (Croatia), the doubles championship in the 2023 U16 Valencian Community Championship, the singles championship in the 2023 U16 Ivan Navarro, the championship for the 2022 U16 Bejar TTK WARRIOS Tour and the doubles championship in the 2022 U16 Champions Bowl Master Valencia, along with numerous runner-up, semifinal and quarterfinal finishes.
WKU had four newcomers join the team during the offseason via the transfer portal for the 2024-25 season in Carolina Chiatti, Mia Miranda, Emily Schut and Elizabeth Sobieski. Those four joined returners Sofia Blanco, Sunskrithi Damera, Rachel Hermanova and Mariana Zegada on the 2024-25 team. Madueño Pita is the first signing WKU has announced for the 2025-26 season.
The Lady Toppers are coming off a 14-11 season in 2024, which tied for fourth-most wins in a single season in program history. WKU is in its winningest three-year stretch in program history, with 47 wins coming during that period.
WKU is scheduled to open the 2025 spring season at home against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 16.
