BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues the 2023 season this week on Friday, February 10 against Murray State.
Doubles play at the Warren County Tennis Complex will begin at 6 p.m. CT.
"Murray State has a tremendous team this year." head coach Greg Davis said. "They are basically a point or two away from being undefeated. Last year, we played well in doubles, but they took five of the six singles matches. We have had a very good week of practice and are expecting to see a nice crowd Friday night to see two talented teams battling at the Warren County Tennis Complex."
Last weekend, WKU played a road contest at Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. The Lady Toppers earned a 5-2 victory over the Bruins to improve to 5-3 on the 2023 campaign.
WKU is 4-18 all-time against Murray State, playing for the first time in 1974. Prior to last season, the sides had faced off in Murray, Ky. two years in a row and in 14 of the 22 total matches. This match will mark the first time the Racers visit The Hill in back-to-back seasons since 1984-85.
Last year, the Lady Toppers were able to secure the doubles point, but dropped five singles matches that resulted in a 5-2 loss to the Racers.
Before the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lady Toppers were able to take victory against the Racers, 4-3. That win marked back-to-back wins against Murray State for WKU going back to the 2016 season.
In the 2022 season, the Racers finished 12-10, losing to Austin Peay in the OVC Tournament semifinals for the second straight season, 4-3.
The Racers have started the 2023 season 4-1 and are coming off a 4-3 loss at home to Southeast Missouri.
