BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer (4-5-2, 1-2-0 C-USA) dropped a 1-0 decision to North Texas (7-4-1, 3-1-0 C-USA) on Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex.

"North Texas is a really good team," said head coach Jason Neidell. "It was the highest scoring offense in the league versus the stingiest defense in the league and we knew to give ourselves a chance we were going to need to hold them to a shutout or possibly one goal. I was a little disappointed we weren't able to keep possession of the ball a little bit better through the midfield so that our defenders weren't under so much pressure."

For 80 minutes, Sunday's match stayed even at 0-0, but North Texas broke the tie in the 81st minute after an attempted clear out from WKU sent the ball to a North Texas attacker and the Mean Green player finished it off for the lone goal of the game.

The Lady Toppers were the aggressors in the first half, outshooting the Mean Green 6-2. North Texas had six shots in the second half to WKU's five. Brooke Sleeva, Kenlee Newcom, Kayla Meyer and Katie Erwin each recorded two shots in the match. Goalkeeper Alexis Bach had two saves in the match.

North Texas' goal was the first WKU has given up at home all season and it was only the eighth in all matches this year. The Mean Green came into the match averaging 2.73 goals per game, the highest mark in Conference USA.

WKU will be back in action next Sunday at Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m.
