DALLAS – WKU Senior Executive Director of Sports Medicine and Student-Athlete Welfare Mike Gaddie was honored with the Conference USA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Choice Award, the league announced Thursday.
The C-USA SAAC Choice Award was designed to recognize a coach, athletic department administrator or faculty member that is committed to fostering student-athlete development and welfare through a positive athletic and academic atmosphere. Each league school submitted a nominee and the honoree was chosen by the conference.
Gaddie was nominated by WKU SAAC after leading the conference in mental health awareness and advocacy. He oversees WKU's TOPCARE program in addition to serving as the primary liaison/supervisor to all team physicians, medical providers, athletic trainers and sport psychologists.
Gaddie was instrumental in WKU Athletics direction under the COVID-19 pandemic while managing and administering the ever-changing policies regarding COVID-19 testing, masking and vaccinations.
In his service to WKU and the conference, Gaddie is also a member of the C-USA Medical Advisory Committee.
Gaddie is an 18-year veteran of the WKU athletic training department and currently leads that staff of 16 individuals to care for all 16 of WKU's sport programs in addition to cheer and dance.
