MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — WKU Tennis won 7 of its 9 matches on its final day at the Middle Tennessee Invitational.
Singles began at 8 a.m. CT with all seven Lady Toppers competing against players Middle Tennessee, Ball State and Lipscomb. WKU won five of seven matches, totaling 19 wins in singles over the entire weekend.
Sofia Blanco has yet to lose in fall play nor drop a set, winning 6-1, 6-2. Mariana Zegada is also unbeaten in fall competition, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Rachel Hermanova won her second third-set tiebreaker of the weekend, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Paola Cortez won her fifth match in a row, winning 6-4, 6-2 and Sunskrithi Damera won in straight sets against a player from Lipscomb, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles, the Lady Toppers competed in just two matches for the second day in a row, winning both of them. This gave the team nine doubles wins over the weekend.
Martinez and Blanco stayed perfect in fall play taking down a pair from Ball State, 6-2 and Damera and Zegada beat a team from Bellarmine, 6-2 as well.

Doubles - 11 a.m.
Samantha Martinez/Sofia Blanco (WKU) def. Ella Hazelbaker/Jacqueline Pearsall (BSU) 6-2
Sunskrithi Damera/Mariana Zegada (WKU) def. Shu Grosso/Channing Varnum (BELL) 6-2
"It was a very good finish to the tournament. Overall, one of the best performances in the fall we have had since I came to The Hill," head coach Greg Davis said. "We have our last fall tournament coming up at Bellarmine, which will also be a tremendous challenge."
The Lady Toppers will finish out fall play at the Bellarmine Invitational on Saturday, Oct 22 through Sunday, Oct. 23.
