BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer (6-6-3, 3-3-1 C-USA) fell to UAB (9-2-4, 6-0-2) on Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex by a 1-0 score.

Both teams came into the match as top five defensive teams in the league, so a low-scoring affair was to be expected. Unfortunately, WKU gave up an own goal as the lone score in the loss in the seventh minute of the match.

UAB was mounting pressure on the WKU defense and got a shot off. A WKU player got a head on the ball, attempting to clear it out, but the ball went backwards into the back of the net.

The Lady Toppers led the Blazers in shots, 8-7, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Carmen Marin was the leading shot taker for WKU with three on the day. Sydney Ernst and Katie Erwin each had two and Olivia Kucharyski added one.

One of Marin's shots was a close-range free kick that was on goal, but the UAB goalkeeper was able to make the save.

Ashley Kobylinski started in goal for the Lady Toppers, her first action of the season. She made three saves on the day.

With just seconds left in the match, WKU was granted a corner kick and had one last chance to mount a scoring attack. The Lady Toppers went all in on the kick, bringing Kobylinski down the field to aid in the box. WKU was able to control the ball, but was unable to score before the horn blew.

WKU will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 20 at Rice at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Toppers will continue their Texas road trip on Sunday, Oct. 23 at UTSA at 1 p.m.
