MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — WKU Tennis won 11 of its 12 matches today at the Middle Tennessee Invitational.
The first singles competition began at 9 a.m. CT with all seven Lady Toppers competing against players from North Alabama and Middle Tennessee. WKU won six of seven and only dropped one set in the matches they won.
Paola Cortez got the win in her match against a player from North Alabama, 6-1, 6-2. Sayda Hernandez played a hard-fought match, losing a third-set tiebreaker 12-10. Rachel Hermanova won her third-set tiebreaker 10-3 after taking the second set 7-5. Sofia Blanco won in convincing fashion 6-1, 6-2 against another North Alabama player. Sunskrithi Damera only dropped one game in her match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Mariana Zegada got her first singles win of the weekend, winning 6-2, 6-0, as well as Samantha Martinez who won her match 6-1, 6-0.
Three Lady Toppers competed in the 2:30 singles competitions against Lipscomb, with all three coming out victorious.
Blanco remained undefeated, winning 6-0, 6-2. Damera won her third singles match in a row, 6-2, 6-3 and Martinez won her second of the day in a third-set tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.
In doubles, the Lady Toppers competed in just two matches today, winning both of them.
Cortez and Hernandez took down a duo from Middle Tennessee, 6-4 and Zegada and Hermanova took care of business against Middle Tennessee as well, 6-2.

The Lady Toppers will conclude the Middle Tennessee Invitational tomorrow in Murfreesboro with play beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
